How to Measure & Size Guide

Accurate measurements are essential for a well-fitting kilt. Please follow the instructions below carefully. If you are unsure, we strongly recommend having your measurements taken by a professional tailor.

Where measurements are supplied by the customer, responsibility for their accuracy rests with the customer. Measurements should be taken snugly but not tightly, and over the type of clothing you would normally wear under a kilt.

What You Will Need

  • A soft measuring tape
  • A mirror or a second person to assist
  • Flat shoes
  • Light clothing (avoid bulky layers)

Key Kilt Measurements

1. Waist (Natural Waist)

Measure around your waist at the point where you normally wear a kilt. This is typically higher than where you wear trousers and usually sits just above the navel.

2. Seat / Hips

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat (usually around 7–9 inches / 18–23 cm below the waist). Stand naturally with feet together.

3. Kilt Length

Measure from your natural waist (where the kilt will sit) straight down to the middle of your knee. The traditional finish is the centre of the kneecap.

Measuring Tips

  • Stand naturally and breathe normally
  • Do not measure over thick clothing
  • Do not add extra inches for comfort
  • Measure twice to confirm accuracy
